- Advance international responsibility, recognizing Loss and Damage Reparations as a transboundary issue requiring coordinated political action.
Why Reparations Matter?
Climate reparations are not charity. They are grounded in international legal principles and human rights obligations.
Courts and international norms increasingly affirm that people have a right not to be harmed, and when harm occurs, a right to remedy and reparation.
A truly just transition must therefore account for past and present climate damage and ensure that affected communities are placed at the center of climate finance and decision‑making.
Reparations for a Just Transition
A transition away from fossil fuels cannot be just or credible if it fails to address the historical climate debt created by decades of extraction and profit that have caused irreversible harm to vulnerable communities. Reparations for climate loss and damage must therefore be integrated as a core pillar of international transition frameworks and political outcomes, not treated as an optional or peripheral measure.
