In February,  Mariana Solano Monge, Innovation Manager of Parque Tec, and David Alfaro, Adviser for the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), spoke to Ojo al Clima Radio about a call for projects on climate change.
Founded in 2004, Parque Tec is an incubator and accelerator of companies that seeks to support the entrepreneurial ecosystem from a different perspective. They work in three specific areas: human development, business management, and strategy and innovation.
Parque Tec performs diagnostics for entrepreneurs and helps them carry out an action plan that allows them to develop their skills. In addition, it offers training sessions with experts on different topics, providing access to a network of companies, strategic allies, and other key actors.
For its part, GIZ is an organization that offers support services and international cooperation to countries on issues of sustainable development.
“In Costa Rica we have focused on supporting national strategies for mitigation and adaptation to climate change. For example, we work on the Climate Action project, which supports the government in climate change policy, and the My Transport project which supports the transportation sector to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions,” said Alfaro.

Launch of a call for climate change projects

Parque Tec, in partnership with GIZ, is looking for initiatives from companies or entrepreneurs who are working or want to work on climate change. The objective of this initiative is to involve the entrepreneurial sector that wants to generate changes and has the potential to do so.
According to the national GHG inventory, the sectors that contribute the most to GHG emissions are the transport and agricultural sectors.
“At GIZ, with the support of Parque Tec, we focus on these two sectors, which, in turn, are those that have the greatest potential for action,” said Alfaro.

Who are the eligible applicants?

Entrepreneurs and companies that work in the transport and agriculture sectors are encouraged to apply. Other elements for potential applicants to consider are whether they have an innovative component, their level of competitiveness, and whether they add value to the market.

What kind of benefits can these enterprises obtain?

Grantees will be able to opt for an acceleration and incubation process, which will allow them to improve their business skills, and have tools to measure their environmental impact. In addition, they will be offered mentoring and training workshops. They will learn how to prepare the pitch for their ventures and they can participate in an Ibero-American Impact Forum, as well as access a capital fund.
